Social Hosting is when an adult (a person of legal age) knowingly allows a minor (a person under the age of 21) who is not their own child and/or of whom they are not the legal guardian, to consume alcohol and/or use other drugs within their private residence, on their land, or other legally secured property.
Social Hosting is not about adults providing alcohol to minors, it is about adults providing a location in which minors can freely consume alcohol and/or drugs without fear they will be stopped or reported to their parents or authorities.
Adults that allow minors to take part in this dangerous and illegal activity, on or within their legally secured property, facilitate underage drinking and substance abuse by providing an environment that conceals their activity from detection and the consequences responsible adults would normally impose. Social Hosting also propagates a dangerous and sometimes deadly teen perception that recreational substance abuse is an accepted and normal behavior.
